Among the finest vineyards in Meursault, the Perrieres offers richness and dimension with definite minerality. Named for the stones or pierres that line this arid surface  the thinnest topsoil in the vicinity  the free-draining limestone close below the surface is responsible for the fruit concentration and distinct "rocky" expression in the wine. Wrapped around this is wonderful fruit ripeness, sometimes tropical in flavour, which is gained during the cool nights and hot sunny days on this beautiful site – which is elevated but more sun-facing than others in Meursault. Broad and powerful yet layered and mineral, this is exceptional value in Meursault to decant now or cellar.

Its Origins

Today the Burgundian wine domaine of Bouchard Pere et Fils can trace its origins back to 1731, though it is no longer family owned. In 1995 the Champagne house Joseph Henriot acquired the company and quality has risen as a consequence. Bouchard is led by Stéphane Follin Arbelet, while the wines are made by Philippe Prost - who has been with the company since 1978. An impressive gravity-flow winery on the Route de Savigny, the Cuvérie St Vincent, was completed in 2005 and enables them to process all their wines with optimum efficiency. Bouchard’s total holdings comprise 130 hectares, including 12ha of grand crus and 74ha of premier crus, which makes them the largest vineyard owners in the Côte d’Or.

What The Critics Say

93/100 Burghound, Allen Meadows

"Here there is no reductive funk with its elegant, airy and cool aromas of citrus peel, acacia, spice and a whiff of Granny Smith apples. The middle weight and focused flavors are stony to the point of imparting the sense of rolling a small pebble around in the mouth, all wrapped in linear, energetic and very dry but not austere finale. This definitely needs time to flesh out and unwind as it's very tight at present." Drink 2026+

91-93/100 Parker's wine Advocate, Neal Martin

"(The 2016 Meursault 1er Cru Les Perrières has a fresh and perfumed bouquet with scents of orange blossom and rose petals on the nose. Other vintages have displayed more mineral drive at this stage, but it is certainly pretty. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity and a sappy salinity coming through on the second half that concludes with a saliva-inducing aftertaste. Excellent." Drink 2019 - 2033

17.5/20 JancisRobinson.com, Richard Hemming

"Stone fruit and mango on the palate, chalky texture with pert acidity and thick, full mouthfeel. Intense and concentrated right through to the finish – formidable and potent." Drink 2018 - 2030
