The “heritage” varietal of Bogle. This wine is crafted in a way that truly reflects this unique varietal. Showcasing trademark characteristics, the Petite Sirah ( also known as Durif ) is impressively inky, dark and luscious in the glass. Supple fruits, including wild blackberry and blueberry, are distinct both in the aromatics and on first sip. Concentrated, rich, savory notes of toasty oak combine with mocha and hints of salted caramel. The finish is firm and full bodied, lingers and lasts as only Petite Sirah can.
What The Critics Say
Winemaker notes on current 2015 vintage
"Dark purple stains the glass, while inky and succulent blueberries and blackberries overwhelm the palate. Juicy plums and rhubarb come together, followed by touches of roasted, savory and earthy tones that round out the mouthfeel. Supple and spicy, this full bodied wine was aged in American oak for 12 months. Toasty vanilla, mocha and a bit of cocoa combine with ample tannins to create a finish with structure and character."
90/100 Wine Enthusiast (2015 vintage)
"This is a dramatic full-bodied wine that is very concentrated in flavor, very tannic in texture, but nevertheless finds good balance. It has meaty beefy smoky aromas, rich blackberry and black-pepper flavors and a lingering finish. It's one more pearl on a long string of great values by Bogle, and should age well through at least 2023."
90/100 Decanter Magazine (2013 vintage)
A crossing of Syrah and Peloursin, Petit Sirah (known in Australia as Durif) has made its home in California. Bogle Estate is a great example, boasting black pepper, plum and black cherry flavours. Rich and concentrated, yet refreshing too, the black fruit characters and spicy notes lead to a very dense finish."
