A fresh and racy example of this cool white variety from Astrolabe. Marlborough's defined aromatics and Astrolabe's pristine handling serve this wine beautifully, showcasing subtle mineral nuances and setting the wines broad weight against a fresh mineral nature. Think aperitif or salty/fatty fish dinners.

Its Origins

Astrolabe was created in 1996 by winemaker Simon Waghorn, the culmination of a career that began in South Australia in 1982. Winemaking later led Simon and his family from Te Kauwhata to Gisborne, where he specialised in Chardonnay, and eventually to Marlborough where in 1996 he and his wife Jane Forrest-Waghorn joined with old friends Paul Davenport and Sally Lewis to have a go at their own label…and so began Astrolabe. Today they work with a number of growers scattered all over Marlborough, from Awatere valley to the Kekerengu coast to the Wairau Valley, developing a wide portfolio of iconic wines that celebrate the varieties and terroirs of Marlborough.

What The Critics Say

92/100 Bob Campbell MW

"From the Kekerengu region. Soft, fresh and silken Albariño with citrus, mandarin and white peach flavours, together with a slightly chalky mineral character. Pretty wine with good purity and a lingering finish. 4/4/2017." Drink 2017 - 2020

4 Stars Michael Cooper

"Grown at Kekerengu, the youthful 2016 vintage (4*) was hand-harvested and fermented in an even split of tanks and old French oak barrels. Made in a fully dry style, it is a fresh, tasty, medium-bodied wine with vibrant citrusy flavours, a slightly salty streak, and very good vigour and intensity."
