This is the first vintage that Artadi have produced this wine and they wanted to over deliver on it in a big way. Produced from 13 hectares of fairly old vines (35 years old) they have purchased in the village of Martin de Unx in the Navarra region, close to Rioja. "Produced to show the personality of a unique Garnacha and the wine tradition rooted in this medieval village. 35 year-old vineyards placed on a slope at more than 600 meters of altitude, in a winemaking region with great Pyrenean influence. A vibrant and fruity wine, with soft and fresh tannins. It´s a wine full of power and authenticity."
Artazu is the label used by Artudi for their wines made in Navarra.
What The Critics Say
92/100 Parker's Wine Advocate, Luis Gutierrez
"Surprisingly enough, I found more Mediterranean notes of herbs, oregano and sun-dried tomato in the 2016 Pasos de San Martín than in the 2017 Santa Cruz de Artazu, despite the cooler vintage and the cooler zone in San Martín de Unx. This had a short élevage of only seven months in 500-liter French oak barrels, and the oak feels very integrated, with the wine coming through as floral and fruit driven. There is always an acute note of violets in this wine. This is nicely textured with fine-grained chalky tannins and more freshness on the palate than what the notes in the nose might point at. 24,000 bottles produced. — The Artazu wines, Artadi's project in Navarra, were already published with the full Artadi portfolio in December 2019, but they are also included here in their context. However, I have omitted the notes of the wines sold in cans under the brand Ah-So. Furthermore, I later visited the vineyards and tasted them again." Drink 2020 - 2026

"Very exciting and muscular with wonderful freshness. Similar vines to the Domaine Lupier ones. Massively satisfying."
