An incredible red buy - not just organic but dark and luscious. Tarima highlights what Monastrell (aka Mourvedre) can do, with intensity of flavour and colour that's not only fruit but also meaty, spicy and earthy dimension. Ethical agriculture meets pure hedonism - what could be better?

Its Origins

The project, located in the town of Pinoso, is a venture of Jorge Ordonez and Rafael Canizares. The winery's 192 acres of vineyards are located southwest of the town of Salinas and northeast of Pinoso. The chalky-soiled vineyards at an elevation of 2,100 feet are planted with 25- to 35-year-old Monastrell vines. The wine is 100% stainless-steel fermented with some stirring of the yeast lees to attain the maximum expression of the variety. Jorge Ordonez is the owner of a dynamic group of well branded labels and wineries focussed on bringing Spain's incredible value proposition to the world market. From key holdings across many of Spain’s regions - some less famous, but all undervalued for the available climate, gnarly old vines and terroir - Ordonez-group wines produce large volumes of inexpensive labels at quality levels that are testing experts’ vocabulary for superlatives. They do this by employing the best winemakers and modern technologies but, more importantly, by staying on song: not getting sidetracked by international varieties but on the contrary respecting and tapping Spain’s deepest resource - local tradition and local varietals - allowing the group to convert forgotten local vineyards into into stunning global assets overnight. As the world wakes up to Spain’s distinctive regional offerings, the chances are Jorge Ordonez and friends have already made them your favourite drop.

What The Critics Say

Parker's Wine Advocate, Robert Parker

"The 2015 Tarima (Organic) is made from 100% Mourvèdre as well, but aged totally in stainless steel with no exposure to oak. Coming from higher-elevation vineyards, this is a soft, fruity, straightforward wine with some chalky minerality, but mostly blueberry and black raspberry fruit, uncomplicated by any wood whatsoever. Drink it over the next 1-2 years." Drink 2016 - 2018

Vinous, Josh Raynolds (2014 vintage)

"Inky ruby. Primary dark berry and cherry pit aromas are complemented by smoky herb, violet and black pepper nuances. Broad and seamless on the palate, offering sweet boysenberry, cherry and a hint of licorice. Finishes smooth and gently sweet, with supple tannins and lingering spiciness. This fruit-forward wine was aged completely in stainless steel tanks."
