Its Origins

The brand showing the P + S logo is a collaboration between the Symington Port house and Bruno Prats, the former owner of Chateau Cos d’Estournel in Bordeaux. Symington began when Andrew James Symington established himself in Porto in 1882. His subsequent acquisition of three important Port houses Warres, Dows, and Grahams became a legacy passing to his three sons, while many further acquisitions accrued a family portfolio of top quality estates whose practices and reputations have endured until the present day. This has included forward thinking and innovation too, as exampled by the collaboration with Bruno Prats. After Cos d’Estournel was sold, Prats embarked on collaborations in Chile and South Africa before being approached by his friends the Symingtons. Launched by its first wine Chryseia, the the concept of Prats and Symington was to create a new cosmopolitan genre by applying Bordeaux production standards and techniques to the best red varieties and vineyards of Portugal’s Douro. Taking Portuguese wine to slightly new territory, the reception of the Chryseia and their other offerings have helped to alter the international perspective on premium, age-worthy Portuguese reds.

What The Critics Say

96/100 Wine Enthusiast

“If any wine from the Douro has a Bordeaux influence, it is this wine. Produced as part of a joint venture between the Prats family of Bordeaux and the Symington family of the Douro, this wine shows great attention to tannins and structure while allowing the black fruits to shine. It is a stylish wine, powerful while wearing that power lightly. Drink this wine, from a very good year, from 2022.”

94/100 Parker's Wine Advocate, Mark Squires

“The 2015 Chryseia is a 65/35 blend of Touriga Nacional and Touriga Franca aged for 15 months in mostly (80%) new French oak. It comes in at 14.2% alcohol. When last seen, this was not long in bottle, so let's check in. What does this add to the Post Scriptum? Concentration, expressive fruit and structure. The tannins are very ripe, but the concentration of fruit here makes this impressive. It tastes great and the finish is long. Then, it adds refinement, mid-palate finesse and an elegant, fresh feel. This is surprisingly approachable right now, but I anticipate that it will age well for another decade—or two.” Drink 2018 - 2035

17+/20 Jancis Robinson

“Vanilla, cedar, a bit of tobacco. Chewy texture gives substantial weight to the palate, and there's plenty of grip on the finish too. Generous and ripe red-fruit core has loads of potential. (RH).” Drink 2020 - 2030
