"Diego Planeta, along with Giacomo Rallo of Donnfugata and Lucio Tasca d’Almerita, is one of the three founding fathers of the “Sicilian wine renaissance” sparked 10 to 15 years ago. Cousins Francesca, Santi and Alessio Planeta hold the reigns to the estate today and have developed one of the most innovative and modern wine entities in Italy (they are among the most “liked” wineries on Facebook). The Planeta family boasts a gifted hand in marketing and their hard work has only helped to develop the “Sicily” brand within the many foreign markets they penetrate." "From Planeta's new (and absolutely stunning) vineyard on the Capo Milazzo promontory that overlooks a shimmering blue sea comes the 2015 Sicilia Nocera. Nocera is an indigenous grape found in the northern part of Sicily and there are few few wineries that produce it as a mono-variety wine. These grapes live in terrestrial paradise and that smug but very happy realization has been made abundantly clear in the high quality of this exciting new Sicilian wine. It offers dark cherry and red currant aromas with pretty tones of dried flower and herb at the back. There are no rough edges here. -- If I were to make a top-ten classification of Italy's most beautiful vineyard sites, Planeta's new Capo Milazzo estate would be featured near the top of that list. A steep rocky promontory jets out over an azure sea with gentle waves that crash against its flanks. On a thin strip of highland, Alessio Planeta and his vineyard team have carefully designed vineyard rows. The windy Capo Milazzo is a stunning corner of Sicily, not far from the port town of Milazzo, where colorful hand gliders soar in constant motion overhead. I had the opportunity to taste Planeta's newest creation: A wine made with 100 percent Nocera grapes." Drink 2016 - 2020

"Bright medium red. High-pitched aromas of red cherry, red currant, woodsy herbs and minerals. Smooth and sweet but with outstanding focus and tension to the deep, brooding red cherry and crushed stone flavors. Very well delineated thanks to strong acidity and a firm tannic spine, but this steely, stony, brooding red is not exactly easy right now: I'd give it at least a couple years in the bottle. Finishes very pure, dry and long." Drink 2018 - 2024

"Youthful mid violet-crimson. Exotically spiced cherry and tamarind nose. Completely dry yet a little aromatic. Opens up and changes all the time in the glass. Damson, wild cherry and liquorice. Long, grainy tannins on the finish. Special and very distinct and dry. (WS)." Drink 2017 - 2020
