96+ Points
This classic wine is perhaps New Zealand most consistent Riesling. Off-dry to medium in sweetness, it has gently honeyed citrus/stonefruit and always a spine of bright acidity and Waipara's lovely lime-mineral characters. The epitome of the mineral deliciousness of Waipara Riesling.

Its Origins

Located in arguably New Zealand's most exciting wine region of North Canterbury (more specifically, Waipara), albeit sparsely scattered with wine estates it is at the forefront of interesting and unique wines in NZ. This is due in part to a fabulous free-draining, well protected terroir. Pegasus Bay is run by the Donaldson family who were pioneers in the region and have been involved with local grape growing and winemaking since the 1970's. The whole family are involved in the process from grape to bottle, and a deep respect for the land, with a long term view towards vine and soil health typifies the Donaldson Family's approach to grape growing. Pegasus Bay is an accredited member of the NZWG sustainable viticulture program and are firm believers of using natural methods to combat pests and diseases rather than the application of unnecessary pesticides and herbicides.

What The Critics Say

18.5/20 Raymond Chan

"The nose is fresh with softly presented aromas of lime and lemon fruit with subtle notes of tangerines, herbs and jasmine florals, unveiling suggestions of lime marmalade, honeysuckle and musk. Medium-dry to medium in taste and medium-bodied, the palate features softly rich and luscious flavours of lime, lemon and tangerines with yellow florals, lime marmalade, honey and subtle musk notes. The fruit richness is restrained in expression and balanced by a very fine phenolic thread and lacy, refreshing acidity providing linearity and flow. The wine carries smoothly to an elegant, long lingering finish. Match with Asian and Middle Eastern cuisine over the next 5+ years. Late-picked fruit with 5% botrytis infection, cool-fermented to 12.5% alc. and 26 g/L RS, TA 7.3 g/L. Mar 2017."

4 1/2 Stars Michael Cooper

"The 2013 vintage (4.5*) was harvested in May with a 'good portion of lovely, clean botrytis.' Light gold, it is full-bodied, fresh and lively, with slightly honeyed aromas and flavours, crisp, peachy and slightly spicy, with good concentration. It's already quite expressive; drink now or cellar."
