A superb, richer Sangiovese from Italy's warm Adriatic coast. The relative heat in the small Molise region creates darker fruit character and almost brooding depth on the palate. But the Sangiovese grape remains expressive, with a long unfolding nose and palate showing it's concentrated quality for the price. A quiet legend that's continually in Wine Spectator's Top 100 Value Red Wines, this is a classy red to match with just about anything.

Its Origins

Founded in 1968, the Di Majo estate cultivates more than 200 acres under vine. In order to ensure consistent, high-quality production for all the estate’s wines, Alessio Di Majo hired renowned oenologist Riccardo Cotarella as a consultant. In addition to producing quality wine at an outstanding value, the Di Majo family is dedicated to practicing environmentally sound agriculture. The Di Majo Norante winery sits on the estate of the Marquis Norante of Santa Cristina in the region of Molise, along the Adriatic Sea between Puglia and Abruzzo. The cultivation of vines in this area dates back to 500 BC, when the region was inhabited by two pre-Roman civilizations, the Sanniti and the Osci. The estate has been dedicated to growing vines since the 1800s. In the 1960s a modern cantina was constructed and vines were replanted in the Ramitello area.

What The Critics Say

Vinous, Ian D'Agata

"Dark red. Initially reduced, then opens with aeration to offer bright floral and red fruit aromas. Youthfully chewy tannins and lively, harmonious acidity nicely frame red berry flavors."

Parker's Wine Advocate, Monica Larner (2014 vintage)

"The 2014 Sangiovese is an IGT Terre degli Osci wine that has enjoyed a long string of successful releases over the past decade or so. This particular vintage is slightly less intense in terms of bouquet and mouthfeel, yet you still get a very good view of the Sangiovese grape. The wine presents sharp contours with bright berry nuances, sour cherry and moist chewing tobacco. A pretty blast of acidity appears on the finish...Of all the wineries in Molise, none stands taller than Di Majo Norante in terms of international visibility. Celebrated enologist Riccardo Cotarella helped to grow this brand thanks to his sophisticated and international style of winemaking. Molise wines owe much to this dynamic Alessio Di Majo and Riccardo Cotarella team. Today, the winery continues in that path to excellence and is an especially interesting option for those looking for exciting value wines from southern Italy

Robert Parker

"Every year this wine delivers consistent quality, immense drinkability and excellent value for money."
