Absolutely stunning, this white Chateauneuf is among the best on the planet. Only a few barrels were made, so this stuff is special and our limited stocks can disappear in a heartbeat. Don't wait and find out the hard way that it's true. Broad peachy and tropical heaven denotes the hot terroir and the rich Chateauneuf style, while the properly structured acidity and mineral backbone show that, on top of everything else, this is one of those rare and precious beasts – a wine where the Roussanne grape gets to dominate...and impress like nothing else.

Its Origins

Domaine de la Janasse was established in 1973 by Aimé Sabon. Brother and sister team of Christophe and Isabelle Sabon continue to work wonders at Janasse, and farm 80 hectares of vineyards spread over a number of wine appellations: Châteauneuf du Pâpe, which is all located in the north-east of the appellation in the commune of Courthézon to be precise, Côtes du Rhône, Côtes du Rhône Village, but also Vin de Pays de la Principauté d'Orange and Vin de table. Concrete tanks are used for the Grenache and oak for the Syrah and Mourvèdre; in other words, everything is fairly traditional; it is the quality of the raw materials which is so impressive and for that reason alone, leaving aside the clear skill and vision of the Sabons, that we are delighted to take on these excellent wines in our listings.

What The Critics Say

97/100 Parker's Wine Advocate, Jeb Dunnuck

"And a candidate for the white of the vintage, the 2015 Châteauneuf du Pape Cuvee Prestige Blanc is 80% old vine Roussanne and 20% Grenache Blanc (there’s splash of other varieties in there) and was bottled the day before this tasting, although it wasn’t showing worse for it. It has thrilling amounts of buttered citrus, pineapple, stone fruits and brioche, with its oak component perfectly integrated and pushed into the background. Full-bodied, layered and incredibly textured, yet always fresh and pure, hats off to the Sabon family for this sensational white! It will be better this time next year, and like the base cuvée, can be cellared for decades. -- One of the finest run estates in all of Châteauneuf du Pape is Domaine de la Janasse, which is managed today by the brother and sister pair of Christophe and Isabelle Sabon. Looking at the 2014 and 2015 releases, both lean towards the more finesse-driven end of the spectrum, with Pinot Noir-like textures and less overt concentration than past vintages. That’s certainly expected in a vintage like 2014, but is surprising in a vintage like 2015. While the estate’s reds, both Châteauneuf du Papes and Côtes du Rhône, are well known, don’t make the mistake of missing their whites, as these are some of the most impressive and age-worthy wines in just about every vintage. It’s also worth noting the new Isabelle Sabon Clos St Antonin releases, also reviewed in this report. This is a new estate located just beside the Plan de Dieu and they release four cuvées: one white and three reds.."
