A top red Burgundy from one of the most prized spots in the world for Pinot Noir. Many Premier Cru vineyards are seen as contenders for promotion to Grand Cru status, but with Les Suchots it's a mystery why it isn't already. Not simply close to legendary Grand Crus, it is literally surrounded by only the best - with Grand Crus Les Echezeaux over one fence and Romanée St Vivant and Richebourg over the other. It shares Echezeaux's east facing slope of free-draining, limey clay soils, where long sun exposure is tempered by cooling winds down the escarpment. This combination allows powerfully expressive ripeness, body and presence to appear along with defined complexity and age-worthy acidity. At a price deservedly comparable with some Grands Crus (but not with its prestigious neighbours) the Suchots offers serious potential for the cellar.

Pinot Noir

Its Origins

In Burgundy’s Côte d’Or, where the integrity of the producer is often more important than a renowned appellation or vineyard, Maison Louis Jadot is one of the most venerable, most trusted and revered wine houses. Jadot’s winemaking team, now led by Technical Director Frédéric Barnier, has maintained a balance of tradition and technology in winemaking that allows Jadot’s wines to express the subtle differences between terroirs that are the essence of fine Burgundy. Though officially retired in 2013, esteemed winemaker Jacques Lardière continues to work in an advisory role and on special projects. Founded in 1859, the house has grown through a long-term policy of acquisition or management of exceptional vineyard lands and owns 528 acres of vineyards, including nearly 280 acres of the Cote d’Or’s most prestigious Premier and Grand Cru plots.

What The Critics Say

92-94 Neil Martin Wine Advocate

"The 2015 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Suchots has a distinct marine influence on the nose, shucked oyster shells and iodine complementing the red berry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, gentle but insistent grip, very good depth with the exuberance and precocity you expect from this vineyard. It should age with panache for 15-20 years".

91-93/100 Burghound, Allen Meadows

"In contrast to the prior two wines this is aromatically much more reserved though aggressive swirling eventually liberates Asian spice box, tea, plum and violet scents. There is fine richness to the very suave and highly seductive medium-bodied flavors thanks to the abundant amounts of dry extract that impart a sappy texture to the lingering and solidly complex finale. This is both classy and stylish and built to reward medium plus-term aging".
