93+ Points
A Grand Cru red from one of Burgundy's hallowed areas. Located between so many great Burgundy names -- Clos de Vougeot is below, Chambolle-Musigny behind and Romanee-Conti is next door -- Echezeaux offers compelling power and delicacy. On a large site of arid lime-rich soils toward the upper slope, Echezeaux's beautiful ripening produces a red that is lush yet firm, fruit-rich yet spicy and imbued with forest floor complexities. The warmth of 2015 has emphasised 'brooding' dark berry fruit, with a seductive texture wrapping a nonetheless serious structure designed for the long haul. A superb vintage for this style.

Its Origins

In Burgundy’s Côte d’Or, where the integrity of the producer is often more important than a renowned appellation or vineyard, Maison Louis Jadot is one of the most venerable, most trusted and revered wine houses. Jadot’s winemaking team, now led by Technical Director Frédéric Barnier, has maintained a balance of tradition and technology in winemaking that allows Jadot’s wines to express the subtle differences between terroirs that are the essence of fine Burgundy. Though officially retired in 2013, esteemed winemaker Jacques Lardière continues to work in an advisory role and on special projects. Founded in 1859, the house has grown through a long-term policy of acquisition or management of exceptional vineyard lands and owns 528 acres of vineyards, including nearly 280 acres of the Cote d’Or’s most prestigious Premier and Grand Cru plots.

What The Critics Say

92-94 Vinous, Stephen Tanzer

"Bright medium red. Pungent mineral lift to the black cherry and cassis aromas. At once sweet and penetrating, with brooding black cherry and blackcurrant flavors somewhat leavened by juicy saline minerality; in a distinctly dark-fruit style for Jadot's Echézeaux. Very firmly built but not hard. This very concentrated wine finishes with substantial ripe, building tannins and is likely to need more cellaring than the Clos Vougeot, which is not typical.(from Les Rouges du Bas; harvested on September 11 with potential alcohol near 13.5%)."

17.5/20 JancisRobinson.com, Jancis Robinson

"Tank sample. Bright crimson. Nose seems more evolved than some, with some meat and two veg on the nose and very smooth tannins. Rather relaxed and glamorous somehow." Drink 2028 - 2040

92-94/100 Parker's Wine Advocate, Neal Martin

"The 2015 Echézeaux Grand Cru has a perfumed bouquet, a mixture of black and blue fruit, with very impressive vigor. The palate is medium-bodied with supple red berry fruit, rounded and velvety in texture, gently building to an assured finish. If it can muster a notch more precision on the nose, then it may well deserve a higher evaluation, but it remains a very delicious and enticing prospect.." Drink 2020 - 2045
