A wonderfully affordable Premier Cru Chardonnay, the 'Bressandes' is considered one of Beaune's best vineyards. It sits above the other 1er Crus on a steep rocky slope of thin limestone soils with bedrock close beneath. Here the fruit is rich and expressive yet full of mineral character with the depth to benefit from an 18 month spell in oak. This rounded and complete wine will reward cellaring but is delicious now. A perfect top Burgundy for beginners -- or something to crack while you wait for your Montrachets to age -- this is definitely one to try.

Its Origins

In Burgundy’s Côte d’Or, where the integrity of the producer is often more important than a renowned appellation or vineyard, Maison Louis Jadot is one of the most venerable, most trusted and revered wine houses. Jadot’s winemaking team, now led by Technical Director Frédéric Barnier, has maintained a balance of tradition and technology in winemaking that allows Jadot’s wines to express the subtle differences between terroirs that are the essence of fine Burgundy. Though officially retired in 2013, esteemed winemaker Jacques Lardière continues to work in an advisory role and on special projects. Founded in 1859, the house has grown through a long-term policy of acquisition or management of exceptional vineyard lands and owns 528 acres of vineyards, including nearly 280 acres of the Cote d’Or’s most prestigious Premier and Grand Cru plots.

What The Critics Say

Burghound, Allen Meadows

"Here the expressive nose is much more floral in character with its aromas of spiced pear and lychee nut that are also trimmed in just enough wood to merit mentioning. The mouth feel of the medium-bodied flavors is highly seductive thanks to the generous level of sappy dry extract that coats the palate on the lush finish that isn't especially complex but it's certainly delicious. This very forward effort should drink well within a year or so of its release."

89-91/100 Vinous, Neal Martin

"Bright light yellow. Vibrant aromas of lemon, lime, white peach, wild herbs and flowers. Juicy and nicely balanced, showing good freshness from the stony, high-altitude soil. (Jadot's Bressandes red actually comes from the lower part of the slope.) Not hugely rich but pliant and nicely balanced. Finishes with a salty element and an edge of bitter lemon. This will need a couple years in bottle to digest its oak." Drink 2019 - 2023
