Named after the proprietor of the 19th century mail coach service that once ran through their property, Henry’s Drive Vignerons is the wine operation established by New Zealander Kim Longbottom and her late husband Mark. Padthaway is located in the south east of South Australia in the heart of the Limestone Coast Region, a picturesque valley with a diverse range of agriculture, horticulture and viticulture. Padthaway experiences a Mediterranean climate of warm dry summers with cool nights which assist in flavor ripening; our winters are reasonably cold and, in a good year, fairly wet. Vineyards were first established in the region in 1963 by some of the founding Australian wine companies, which still source fruit from the region today.
What The Critics Say
5 Stars Raymond Chan
Very dark, near-impenetrable black-hued purple-red colour. The nose is finely presented with well-concentrated and piquantly intense aromas of blackcurrants and blackberry fruit, along with a soft underlay of mint and herbs, and suggestions of eucalypt and cedary oak. Medium-full bodied, the palate features rich and luscious flavours of blackcurrants and blackberries, entwined with sweet, cedary oak and nuances of mint. The fruit forms a rounded, but concentrated core, and the richness is balanced by fine, grainy tannin structure providing positive drive and line. The acidity is integrated, and the wine flows with good energy, leading to a long, lingering finish of black fruits, herbs and cedar. This is a rich, sweet, blackcurranty and black-berried Cabernet Sauvignon with mint and cedar notes and a fine-textured palate. Match with roast lamb and beef over the next 5+ years. Cabernet Sauvignon from Padthaway fermented to 14.5% alc., the wine aged 10 months in 60% French and 40% American oak. 18.5/20
