A super-value Aussie Red that's drinking beautifully. It was built to last, with the whole package of concentrated flavours and lovely tannins and oak. Lashings of softening dark fruits make this a luscious wine now - in its prime in fact, already developed but with a few more years left on it, for those who have the willpower. We certainly wouldn't.

Its Origins

Named after the proprietor of the 19th century mail coach service that once ran through their property, Henry’s Drive Vignerons is the wine operation established by New Zealander Kim Longbottom and her late husband Mark. Padthaway is located in the south east of South Australia in the heart of the Limestone Coast Region, a picturesque valley with a diverse range of agriculture, horticulture and viticulture. Padthaway experiences a Mediterranean climate of warm dry summers with cool nights which assist in flavor ripening; winters are reasonably cold and, in a good year, fairly wet. Vineyards were first established in the region in 1963 by some of the founding Australian wine companies, which still source fruit from the region today.

What The Critics Say

89/100 Huon Hooke

"Deep, youthful red/purple colour with fresh, plummy, blackberry and gently floral aromas. The palate has a note of star anise and black fruits, seemingly reflecting very ripe grapes. Oak is under-played. It's full-bodied and robust yet balanced, and the palate has generous flavour and grip even if it's a trifle unpolished. Remarkable value for money. 24 AUG 2017." Drink 2018 - 2030

93/100 Sam Kim (2013 vintage)

"A fabulous shiraz cabernet blend, the wine is filled with black currant, plum, cocoa and toasted nut flavours with hints of dried herb and spice notes. The palate delivers lovely fruit richness and smooth texture, backed by fine tannins, leading to a persistent succulent finish. The wine is plump and generous, and offers terrific drinking. At its best: now to 2019. $20.00."
