This is a new project of Isabelle Sabon and her father, Aimé, of Domaine de la Janasse, who purchased this 15 hectare domain in 2014. The estate, itself, is located in Jonquières just north of Courthézon. The Châteauneuf-du-Pape will be made from fruit drawn from two hectares of vines in the prime La Crau and Font du Loup vineyards, which were part of Domaine de la Janasse. This 2015 was actually made entirely from La Crau fruit. Those holdings are being folded into Clos St.-Antonin in anticipation of the usual French succession issues that will ensue when Isabelle and her brother, Christophe, take over Domaine de la Janasse from their father.
What The Critics Say
91-93/100 Vinous, Josh Raynolds
"Lurid ruby. Highly expressive cherry and black raspberry aromas are complicated by floral and Asian spice nuances. Sappy, sweet and expansive on entry, then tighter in the middle, offering juicy, densely packed red and blue fruit flavors that turn sweeter and more lively as the wine opens up. Shows a subtle lavender pastille quality on the persistent, penetrating finish, which is framed by smooth, harmonious tannins. (aged entirely in foudres)"
91-93/100 Parker's wine Advocate, Neal Martin
"There’s some serious reds in the lineup. The Grenache-dominated 2015 Châteauneuf du Pape was completely destemmed and raised mostly in foudre. Coming all from the Courthezon region of Châteauneuf du Pape and sandy soils, it has a Cuvee Chaupin-like elegance, as well as beautiful notes of kirsch, blackberries, forest floor and garrigue. As with all of the 2015s from Janasse, it has a Pinot Noir-like texture and vibrancy. -- A new estate just recently purchased by the Sabon family of Domaine de la Janasse, Clos St Antonin is located just on the edge of Plan de Dieu and they release one white cuvée and three reds."
