Great value from a close neighbour to Pomerol. Sometimes there is only a fine quality distinction between Lalande estates and famous Pomerol neighbours, but price is a different matter - and this gorgeous Chateau Siaurac delivers just like a Pomerol for a very humble cost. Rich and focused with the local sturdy, spicy, toasty black fruit, this wine also offers an accessibility and expressiveness that is simply delicious. Ready to decant and enjoy quite soon, it also has the qualities to improve for many years in cellar.

Overview

Its Origins

"46 hectares of the best soils in Lalande de Pomerol, Château Siaurac sits on the extension of the famous Pomerol plateau in the small town of Néac. This magnificent property is both the largest and most emblematic in the appellation. As quoted in the 1893 edition of the wine guide Feret, “Château Siaurac is separated from the first growths of Pomerol only by a thin string of water called the Barbane”. Its 40 micro-plots give the Great wine a special balance, charm and generosity. The wine is voracious… A true gentleman… According to the English critic, Tim Atkin, “Château Siaurac has secured its place among its neighbors in Pomerol."

What The Critics Say

90-92/100 Parker's Wine Advocate, Neal Martin

"The 2015 Siaurac has long been making some "nifty" Lalande-de-Pomerol and this is well worth investigating. It has a sensual, fruit-forward bouquet with plenty of black cherry and cassis fruit that does not overpower. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grain tannin. There is a couple of layers of new oak to be absorbed, but there is sufficient fruit to do that and it finished with attractive truffle and white pepper notes that offer fine salinity." Drink 2019 - 2030

16.5/20 Jancis Robinson

"Now directed by Engerer of Ch Latour. Super-opulent but not overdone. Rich and peppery. Well up to AOC Pomerol standard." Drink 2022 - 2032

91/100 The Wine Cellar Insider

"The best Siaurac ever produced. This wine delivers soft, polished textures, ripe, black raspberries, cocoa, licorice and an earthy component. Having more weight and density than usual, it finishes with sweet, polished black raspberries and dark cocoa."
