A superb property bordering Cotes de Castillon and Saint Emilion. Aiguilhe enjoys beautiful, mineral-rich soils of clay and limestone that seasonally drain and retain moisture for superb fruit quality. Here Merlot shows it's full glory, with real richness and mouth-filling satisfaction added to style and finesse. Regularly rated well above the price -- drink now or cellar a good while!

85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc

Its Origins

Chateau d'Aiguilhe is a very old holding located on a rocky aiguille (French for "needle" or "peak") in the Cotes de Castillon region. The peak was once used by the Knights Templar as a stronghold with the present chateau dating back to the 13th century. D'Aiguilhe is owned by Stephan von Neipperg who also owns several Saint-Emilion properties including Château Canon-La-Gaffelière, Clos de l'Oratoire, Chateau Peyreau and La Mondotte. D'Aiguilhe's vineyards are planted on the upper southern (sun facing) slopes, giving them excellent drainage and thin soils over a limestone base. The wine maker is Jean-Patrick Meyrignac who has a flexible approach for gaining the best from the low yields of each vintage.

What The Critics Say

90-92/100 Parker's Wine Advocate, Neal Martin

"The 2015 Chateau d'Aiguilhe is a blend of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc, picked between September 23 and October 8 at 30 hectoliters per hectare, and matured in 30% new oak barrels. It has a very ripe and opulent, quite showing bouquet with fig and date-tinged red berry fruit. The palate is very well balanced, a supple ball of red cherry and strawberry fruit, with a touch of Christmas cake and allspice towards the finish; the Cabernet Franc imparts a little edginess, with a saline tincture lingering on the aftertaste. This is a very fine Côtes de Castillon from Comtes Von Neipperg." Drink 2018 - 2028

93/100 The Wine Cellar Insider

"Purity with silky tannins and incredibly sweet, ripe, dark, red fruits to begin, you'll find licorice and just a hint of dark chocolate on the back end. This wine has concentration and energy and gives us insight into the kind of wine that can be realized in the Cotes de Bordeaux."
