A super-classy Bannockburn Pinot Noir that's organically made, beautifully made and backed by Carrick's increasingly long-standing pedigree. This is grown in their on-site vineyard from which the wine emerges elegantly fruited and with a nice presence of fine, minerally tannins. Bright and harmonious but fine-boned and ageworthy, this wine has understated X factor while remaining an authoritative statement in Central Otago style.

Pinot Noir

Its Origins

Carrick is an integrated organic vineyard, winery, restaurant and cellar door in Bannockburn Central Otago. Known for their quality premium Pinot Noir, Carrick also grows and makes Chardonnay, Riesling, Pinot Gris and Sauvignon Blanc; wines noted for their fruit expression and clarity. Steve Green, the owner-manager of Carrick, the viticulturist, the winemaker and the chef brings understanding and experience to making fine wine and food. This pride is reflected in the care of the vineyard and environment – Carrick has a flock of free range hens, giant compost heaps and a community garden, all part of the Carrick philosophy.

What The Critics Say

4.5 Stars Michael Cooper

"A regional classic. The 2015 vintage (4.5*) was also matured for a year in French oak barrels (20 per cent new). A finely textured, savoury red, it is full-bodied, with fresh, ripe cherry, plum, spice, dried herb and nut flavours, revealing good complexity, and obvious cellaring potential; open 2019+. Certified organic."

95/100 Bob Campbell MW (2014 vintage)

"Fleshy, fruit bomb pinot noir with lush plum and dark cherry flavours plus a subtle seasoning of spicy oak. A silken-textured wine with that’s deliciously drinkable now. The best Carrick Pinot Noir I’ve tasted for some time. 17/1/2017" Drink 2017 - 2022

16.5/20 JancisRobinson.com (2014 vintage)

"Bright cherry red. Spiced and not particularly sweet-fruited though there's definitely an intensity of fruit in the aroma. Juicy red cherries and plums and a nice chewy texture, rounded out on the finish. Spicy and fresh on the finish and with a mineral and more savoury quality that seems to increase the length. Succulent texture. Fermented in small open-top fermenters, and typically has a 5-day pre-ferment cold soak, with punch downs throughout fermentation, then 5-7 days extended maceration. Fermentation occurs with ambient yeast and the wine is matured for 14 months in French oak, of which about 20% is new. Malolactic fermentation occurs in the spring - lots are then selected and blended before bottling without fining or filtration. (JH)" Drink 2017 - 2024
