A highlight of the Bruno Rocca range, moving to esteemed Rabaja was where it all began for them in the 1950s. A wine of immense distinction and directness, some small format French oak enriching the mouth feel and underlining the savoury power. This is a deeply compelling offering from a bold producer not afraid to break the moulds to capture the vineyard they love so well. With serious age-worthiness and X factor, this is a don't-miss for the cellar.

Its Origins

Bruno Rocca’s parents bought the estate's current property in the 1950‘s when they moved to Rabaja from Barbaresco. Bruno took over the estate when his father died in 1978. As a consummate modernist, Bruno uses modern technology to produce wines with tremendous intensity of fruit balanced by the characteristic Piemontese structure and a judicious use of oak. His wines look, smell and taste like real Nebbiolo and unlike an increasing number of other Piemonte producers, he never feels the need to add a certain extra something to deepen the colour or round out the palate. Bruno started bottling in 1978 and since then has risen to the top of the quality tree in this area, producing a Barbaresco and the single vineyard Rabaja Barbaresco. His daughter, Luisa now works with him at the estate as the marketing manager.

What The Critics Say

94+/20 Parker's Wine Advocate, Monica Larner

"This wine will be released this upcoming September. Bruno Rocca and his family have moved the release of this wine forward by six months. Given the importance of its structure and the complexity of the bouquet, it is more similar to a Barolo in their judgment and can therefore use more time to integrate in the cellar. The 2015 Barbaresco Rabajà is a beautiful wine, and the Rocca family never disappoints. This estate is at the top of a list of my favorite Barbaresco producers. This gorgeous achievement showcases fine mineral nuances stitched firmly throughout the generous fruity fiber of the wine. This part of Rabajà has cool, heavy soils and is west-facing and therefore does well in hot vintages such as 2015." Drink 2020 - 2043

93+/100 Vinous, Antonio Galloni

"The 2015 Barbaresco Rabajà is surprisingly accessible for such a young wine from this revered site in Barbaresco. There is plenty of Rabajà impact and density, and yet the 2015 has a certain charm and seductiveness to it that is impossible to miss. It will be interesting to see if the 2015 shuts down at some point in bottle. Given the natural power and structure of Rabajà, I suspect that will happen. Even in this warm, radiant vintage, the 2015 delivers tons of Rabajà character, although naturally with the friendlier personality that is typical of the year."
