A beautifully big, soft and sweet-fruited Spanish Grenache that Robert Parker called 'a remarkable wine value'. The Breca flames are not only an international sensation but insane value from a less famous region. In hot, dry Calatayud they rate their wines by vine age: these bush vines were planted, oh, some time between World War II and the 70s. Yes, you read correctly. A classy no-brainer and barbeque guzzler, this is our import and no other Garnacha comes close for the price.

Its Origins

Bodegas Breca in Calatayud was founded in in 2005 by Jorge Ordonez, owner of a dynamic group of well branded labels and wineries focussed on bringing Spain's incredible value proposition to the world market. From key holdings across many of Spain’s regions - some less famous, but all wildly undervalued for the available climate, gnarly old vines and terroir - the Ordonez-group produce large volumes of inexpensive labels at quality levels that are testing experts’ vocabulary for superlatives. They do this by employing the best winemakers and modern technologies but, more importantly, by staying on song: not getting sidetracked by international varieties but on the contrary respecting and tapping Spain’s deepest resource - local tradition and local varietals - allowing the group to convert forgotten local vineyards into into stunning global assets overnight. As the world wakes up to Spain’s distinctive regional offerings, the chances are Jorge Ordonez and friends have already made them your favourite drop.

What The Critics Say

90/100 Vinous, Josh Raynolds

"(made in stainless steel and concrete tanks) Opaque ruby. Highly perfumed black and blue fruits and violet on the nose, joined by a suggestion of five-spice powder that emerges with air. Supple, seamless and nicely concentrated, offering juicy boysenberry and floral pastille flavors enlivened by jolt of white pepper. The smooth, subtly tannic finish echoes the blue fruit note and hangs on with very good tenacity." Drink 2018 - 2022

Parker's Wine Advocate, Robert Parker

"Two gorgeous reds from Breca include the generic 2015 Garnacha De Fuego from Aragon. This comes from a large regional vineyard spread over many different terroirs. The vines are respectably old, all having been planted between the end of World War II (1945) and 1976. The wine is 100% Grenache from the oldest clone of Grenache in the world and the one that was adopted by France in the Rhône Valley and the Languedoc-Roussillon. The wine spent its entire life in cement and stainless-steel tanks before being bottled unfiltered. A lovely sleeper from Jorge Ordoñez Selections, this wine show loads of black raspberry, cherry, liqueur notes, licorice, a lush medium-bodied mouthfeel, beautiful purity and a juicy texture. Drink it over the next several years. It is a remarkable wine value!" Drink 2016 - 2019
