Among the finest vineyards in Meursault, the Perrieres offers richness and dimension with definite minerality. Named for the stones or pierres that line its arid topsoil  the thinnest in the vicinity  the free-draining limestone close below the surface is responsible for the fruit concentration and distinct "rocky" expression in the wine. Wrapped around this is wonderful fruit ripeness, sometimes tropical in flavour, which is gained during the cool nights and hot sunny days on this beautiful site – which is elevated but more sun-facing than others in Meursault. Broad and powerful yet layered and mineral, this is exceptional value in Meursault to decant now or cellar.

Its Origins

Today the Burgundian wine domaine of Bouchard Pere et Fils can trace its origins back to 1731, though it is no longer family owned. In 1995 the Champagne house Joseph Henriot acquired the company and quality has risen as a consequence. Bouchard is led by Stéphane Follin Arbelet, while the wines are made by Philippe Prost - who has been with the company since 1978. An impressive gravity-flow winery on the Route de Savigny, the Cuvérie St Vincent, was completed in 2005 and enables them to process all their wines with optimum efficiency. Bouchard’s total holdings comprise 130 hectares, including 12ha of grand crus and 74ha of premier crus, which makes them the largest vineyard owners in the Côte d’Or.

"The 2015 Meursault 1er Cru Les Perrières comes from 1.2-hectares split over three parcels. It has a tightly-wound bouquet with dried yellow flowers filtering through the citrus fruit, although I wanted to see more stoniness to anchor its vineyard location. The palate is well balanced with citrus peel, lime and orange zest on the entry. There is certainly a lot of concentration here and I appreciate the spicy, stem ginger finish. This is a commendable Meursault Perrières." Drink 2018 - 2030

"(13.6% alcohol): The rockiest nose so far of these 2015s, with complicating notes of citrus zest, pineapple and lime blossom. Fine-grained, nicely delineated and adamantly dry; a mineral bath in the mouth, with a repeating note of pineapple. Finishes with good tactile, dusty length. These Meursault premier crus produced a maximum of 32 hectoliters per hectare in 2015, according to Weber."
