A rich and ripe expression of Beaune Pinot Noir from a superb vintage. The Infant Jesus is a monopole exclusive to Bouchard, bought in 1791. It sits within the famous Les Greves, which along with the neighbouring Sur Les Greves is considered the best terroir in the Beaune commune. The free-draining lime-rich gravels are referred to in the name and sit on a southeast facing slope, capturing long sunlight hours while enjoying cool nights. The result is a ripe, mouthfilling red that nonetheless carries the definition, complexity and age-worthy freshness of a truly great expression. An icon from a great producer in a stellar, warm vintage. Drink soon or cellar.

Its Origins

Today the Burgundian wine domaine of Bouchard Pere et Fils can trace its origins back to 1731, though it is no longer family owned. In 1995 the Champagne house Joseph Henriot acquired the company and quality has risen as a consequence. Bouchard is led by Stéphane Follin Arbelet, while the wines are made by Philippe Prost - who has been with the company since 1978. An impressive gravity-flow winery on the Route de Savigny, the Cuvérie St Vincent, was completed in 2005 and enables them to process all their wines with optimum efficiency. Bouchard’s total holdings comprise 130 hectares, including 12ha of grand crus and 74ha of premier crus, which makes them the largest vineyard owners in the Côte d’Or.

What The Critics Say

92-94/100 Burghound, Allen Meadows

"A discreet though not invisible application of wood sets off highly complex aromas of plum liqueur and a wide range of floral elements that are trimmed in soft spice and earth notes. There is outstanding richness to the full-bodied and concentrated medium-bodied flavors that possess a seductive, even caressing mouth feel before concluding in a decidedly firm, well-balanced and slightly austere finish. This is very clearly built-to-age and should mature slowly over the next 12 to 15 years. Very impressive." Drink 2027+

91-94/100 Vinous, Stephen Tanzer

"Bright ruby-red. Liqueur-like ripeness to the aromas of purple fruits, bitter chocolate and cotton candy; smells very concentrated. Plush and large-scaled, displaying outstanding density and a seriously mouthfilling quality to its dark cherry and dark chocolate flavors. A very tactile, broad Beaune wine with a finish that's ripely tannic and very long--and not at all over the top. The best of an impressive set of Beaune premier crus in 2015."

90-92/100 Parker's Wine Advocate, Neal Martin

"The 2015 Beaune 1er Cru Les Greves Vigne de l'Enfant Jesus comes from sandier soil than elsewhere in Beaune Grèves and therefore tends to be picked earlier. This blend contains around 30% whole cluster fruit. It has a clean and fresh bouquet with red plum, mulberry and cranberry aromas that have more brightness than some of Bouchard Père's other red 2015 barrel samples. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, well judged acidity, plenty of red fruit mixed with honey, hints of marmalade, quite exotic for this vineyard, but with everything kept in proportion. This should develop into a fine red Burgundy." Drink 2019 - 2032
