The vineyard is nestled under Mount Tapuae-O-Uenuku (Maori" "Footprint of the Rainbow"). At the top of the Southern Alps, it strongly influences the climate, with its rain shadow bestowing low rainfall and low humidity upon the Awatere Valley. Along with sunny days and cool nights this creates perfect conditions for slow steady ripening and flavour development. Awatere grapes have a distinctive fruity yet steely and herbaceous flavour quite different to those produced elsewhere in Marlborough.
What The Critics Say
93/100 Wine Orbit, Sam Kim
"A glorious sweet wine, the complex bouquet shows marmalade, honey, citrus and a hint of dill aromas, leading to an opulent palate that's gorgeous sweet (205 g/l) and richly textured. A concentrated wine showing superb intensity and balance. Made from botrytised sauvignon blanc grapes grown on their estate vineyard in the Awatere Valley. At its best: now to 2018. $28.00. Moderate availability. 375ml. Nov 2013."
