An extraordinary wine and a unique statement, the superb Chryseia brings premium Bordeaux technique to the character and richness of Portugal's distinctive local varieties. Like many 'challenging' vintages, 2014 favoured the top end - where the oldest vines in the best vineyards could be closely managed through the long dry summer. In fact the vast majority was harvested before the rain arrived - making a near perfect scenario. With a stellar track record, this always sells out. Decant or cellar - grab this before it goes!

Its Origins

The brand showing the P + S logo is a collaboration between the Symington Port house and Bruno Prats, the former owner of Chateau Cos d’Estournel in Bordeaux. Symington began when Andrew James Symington established himself in Porto in 1882. His subsequent acquisition of three important Port houses Warres, Dows, and Grahams became a legacy passing to his three sons, while many further acquisitions accrued a family portfolio of top quality estates whose practices and reputations have endured until the present day. This has included forward thinking and innovation too, as exampled by the collaboration with Bruno Prats. After Cos d’Estournel was sold, Prats embarked on collaborations in Chile and South Africa before being approached by his friends the Symingtons. Launched by its first wine Chryseia, the the concept of Prats and Symington was to create a new cosmopolitan genre by applying Bordeaux production standards and techniques to the best red varieties and vineyards of Portugal’s Douro. Taking Portuguese wine to slightly new territory, the reception of the Chryseia and their other offerings have helped to alter the international perspective on premium, age-worthy Portuguese reds.

What The Critics Say

94/100 and 'Outstanding', Wine Spectator

“A powerful and concentrated red, featuring kirsch, red plum and baker’s chocolate notes, balanced by tarragon, slate and violet details.Elegant, with supple tannins framing the long finish, which islaced with hot stone, olive and licorice accents.”

93/100 Wine Enthusiast

“This wine is rich, full and densely concentrated. With wood aging not far away, it is still toasty, offering weighty ripe fruit that shows great potential. This impressive wine is produced by the joint venture between the Symington Family and Bruno Prats.”

18/20 and 'Best of the Year 2016', Revista de Vinhos

“What is most appealing about this wine made with Touriga Nacional and Touriga Franca is how well the fruit integrates with the very high quality oak in which the wine ages. Wonderful structure (...) long aftertaste. A complete wine.”
