Complex and expressive, from biodynamic vineyards this is a uniquely cutting edge and layered take on wonderful Saint Emilion. Merlot dominates giving juicy fruit and a plump mouthfeel - and nice concentration, standing up effortlessly to the partial use of new oak - but it also is a very open style designed to reveal the terroir complexities as well as the focused balance and structure, which promises to carry it to a very long and interesting life in cellar. From slightly outside the square and for that very reason, one not to miss. Add some to the box!

Its Origins

Chateaux L'Eveche is the second label to long-standing Saint Emilion estate, Chateau La Chapelle Lescours. Run using biodynamic methods, these vineyards of Merlot with some Cabernet Franc - as well as experimentations in Petit Verdot, Malbec and Carmenère - are situated near the border of Saint Emilion and Pomerol.

What The Critics Say

Jancis Robinson

A special new St Emilion wine that is densley planted at 8000 vines per ha at an average age of 50 years. Undervalued at this stage but expect its price to rise in the future. “New owners since 2008; on gravelly land close to Pomerol. Old vines and they are planting all the varieties allowed in the appellation including Petit Verdot, Malbec and Carmenère. Savoury and rather wild and interesting. A wine to look out for. Tastes rather biodynamic. Really lively undertow. No excess oak!”
