Jim Barry's Armagh is some of Australia’s finest Shiraz. Despite massive depth complexity is the focus, with a built palate where dense black fruits are the source of an endless unfolding of toasty, spicy and earthy layers. From 50 year old vines that produce an insanely low 2 tonnes per hectare, this is a true legend at a well deserved price.

Its Origins

"The name Jim Barry is synonymous with Clare Valley family winemaking excellence. Graduating in 1947 as the 17th student with a degree at Roseworthy, Jim Barry with his wife Nancy went on to establish his own venture by purchasing property in 1959. Their sons Peter, Mark and John joined to grow the business to what it is today with Peter as the current managing director. Peter’s sons Tom and Sam are about to take over the Barry family reins, but as with such situations, handing over is never easy." Raymond Chan

What The Critics Say

96/100 Halliday's Australian Wine Companion, Jane Faulkner

"The star of the Jim Barry show - it plays a different medley. This is superbly honed, brimming with power and depth, full-bodied yet there's a certain refinement too. Astonishing colour, all dark ruby and bright with purple tinges, the tannins velvety and savoury, the finish long. Every detail taken care of and the end result a complete wine. Surprisingly approachable, but built to last a considerable distance." Drink by 2044

95/100 Huon Hooke

"Very deep, bold youthful purple colour; lovely fresh, clean aromas with perfectly ripened black fruit and violet aromas; oak is well in harmony, even at this tender age. The wine is elegant as well as full-bodied, tightly framed and stylish, not at all overripe or over-built. The tannins are generous, savoury and long, finely grained and suave. A very fine wine indeed, elegant and balanced even at this age. Evolution of the style is apparent. (unreleased) 07 OCT 2015/." Drink 2019 - 2046

94/100 The Wine Front, Gary Walsh

"The Big Boy from Clare. Blackberry, sage and mint, toasted coconut oak, chocolate and spice. Full-bodied, lavish oak and black fruit, but keeps its shape and doesn’t bloat, tannin is thick and grainy, balanced acidity, toasted oak and raspberry on a long firm almost grittily tannic finish. Plenty to get your teeth into here, that’s for sure." Drink 2022 - 2040
