A superb Premier Cru red Burgundy that many consider to be of Grand Cru quality. The Les Saint Georges vineyard is central to the area and most famous, having given it's name to the Nuits Saint Georges village itself. It is renowned for producing wines such as this - richly fruited, with a full nose and palate of red fruit and minerals - given extra depth and lift by the ideal mix of chalky, limestone and clay soils lying on a low, sun-warmed gentle slope. Truly superb value, this deliciously deep and defined expression from Jadot will drink very soon or cellar for ages.

Its Origins

In Burgundy’s Côte d’Or, where the integrity of the producer is often more important than a renowned appellation or vineyard, Maison Louis Jadot is one of the most venerable, most trusted and revered wine houses. Jadot’s winemaking team, now led by Technical Director Frédéric Barnier, has maintained a balance of tradition and technology in winemaking that allows Jadot’s wines to express the subtle differences between terroirs that are the essence of fine Burgundy. Though officially retired in 2013, esteemed winemaker Jacques Lardière continues to work in an advisory role and on special projects. Founded in 1859, the house has grown through a long-term policy of acquisition or management of exceptional vineyard lands and owns 528 acres of vineyards, including nearly 280 acres of the Cote d’Or’s most prestigious Premier and Grand Cru plots.

What The Critics Say

90-93/100 Burghound, Allen Meadows

"This is really quite pretty aromatically with a perfumed red and dark cherry infused nose that offers up additional notes of earth and spice tones trimmed in more discreet wood. There is good verve to the intense medium weight flavors that possess fine detail on the surprisingly suave, focused and balanced finish. This isn't as powerful or concentrated as the Vaucrains but it's notably more refined. While these two wines possess similar quality, they are clearly very different." Drink 2023+

89-91/100 Vinous, Stephen Tanzer

"Healthy dark red. Wild aromas of small red berries, leather and fresh blood. Broad in texture and fine-grained but not yet filled in; hints at coffee and saline minerality but lacks the sweetness of the Vaucrains. The tannins of this youthfully austere wine are dry but not harsh."

89-91/100 Parker's Wine Advocate,

"The 2014 Nuits Saint Georges 1er Cru les Saint Georges is more reticent on the nose than the 2014 Vaucrains, with less mineralité coming through. Tight-lipped is the word. The palate is rounded and voluminous with thickly layered red berry fruit that present a fine framework, and yet it does not seem to possess the tension and nervosité, the mineral drive of the Vaucrains. Let's see how this develops in bottle." Drink 2017 - 2030
