A superb premium Chardonnay from Southern Burgundy's Pouilly-Fuisse. The Tournant de Pouilly is a gentle east-facing slope of 60 year old vines that grow in beautiful, deep soils of limestone silt and clay. As a top expression of these experts in Pouilly, this wine captures the balance of rich fruit, fresh minerality and definite oak for which this appellation is beloved. In this case more elegant than opulent - though with a feeling of both - this uses a truly great vintage to bring out a classic expression of the Ferret style. Ferret give this 10-15 years in cellar, yet it drinks so beautifully now...

Its Origins

Founded in 1840, Domaine Ferret is located in the heart of the most famous "climats" of the Fuissé amphitheatre. A precise knowledge of the region's most remarkable terroirs forms the basis of the parcel by parcel vinification for which the Domaine is renowned: in particular, the classification of Tête de Cru and Hors Classe were established by Jeanne Ferret. It was entirely down to her that the wines were bottled at the Domaine - at a time when this was certainly not standard practice. Her daughter, Colette, followed in her footsteps, developing the Domaine's reputation for excellence by focusing on the maturation period. When Louis Jadot acquired the 18-hectare property in 2008, its aim was to continue working in the tradition of excellence established by the Ferrets. Today, Audrey Braccini is in charge of maintaining the property's high standards.

What The Critics Say

90-93/100 Burghound, Allen Meadows

"More moderate though by no means invisible wood frames the fresh and cool but ripe array of apple, white peach, pear and a hint of acacia blossom. There is a slightly finer mouth feel to the concentrated and attractively textured middle weight plus flavors that deliver even better persistence on the balanced, long and very serious finale. This too should drink well young yet reward 3 to 5 years of bottle age."

90-92/100 Vinous, Stephen Tanzer

"Medium bright yellow. Yellow peach, yellow plum and a good bit of oak on the nose, with an accent of white pepper. Large-scaled and rich but with plenty of peppery energy and tannic structure. Less complex than the Ménétrières and with a totally different texture. This powerful Pouilly-Fuissé will need time in the cellar to unfold."

16/20 Jancis Robinson MW

"A little less extreme in aroma than the Tête de Cru Le Clos though still with cedary oak influence. Deeper and richer, perhaps slightly softer in texture but still with very fresh acidity. (JH)" Drink 2016 - 2020
