Founded in 1840, Domaine Ferret is located in the heart of the most famous "climats" of the Fuissé amphitheatre. A precise knowledge of the region's most remarkable terroirs forms the basis of the parcel by parcel vinification for which the Domaine is renowned: in particular, the classification of Tête de Cru and Hors Classe were established by Jeanne Ferret. It was entirely down to her that the wines were bottled at the Domaine - at a time when this was certainly not standard practice. Her daughter, Colette, followed in her footsteps, developing the Domaine's reputation for excellence by focusing on the maturation period. When Louis Jadot acquired the 18-hectare property in 2008, its aim was to continue working in the tradition of excellence established by the Ferrets. Today, Audrey Braccini is in charge of maintaining the property's high standards.
What The Critics Say
91-93/100 Vinous, Stephen Tanzer
"Bright lemon-yellow color. Restrained, subtly pungent lemon zest and spice aromas are accompanied by a lightly candied quality. Juicy on the palate but painfully imploded, conveying an exhilarating sugar/acid balance and sexy suggestions of exotic fruits. Very young wine with outstanding energy and cut. Not a particularly salty style but really stimulates the salivary glands; not austere but needs time in the cellar. The highest in octane of these 2014s at 13.8%; this east-facing slope turns to the south and always produces higher alcohol, notes Audrey Braccini."
90-92/100 Burghound, Allen Meadows
"Once again generous but not dominant wood frames the notably riper aromas of various white and yellow orchard fruit scents that possess a pretty floral component. The lush yet energetic medium weight flavors possess excellent size, weight, concentration and power that continues through to the impressively long finish. As is usually the case this is less refined than the Le Clos but it offers even better depth on the lingering finish. Note that this will need a few years to better integrate the wood treatment." Parker's Wine Advocate, Neal Martin
"Domaine J.A. Ferret was founded in 1850 and passed through a female line of succession that had the nous to bottle themselves, long before the practice became common. Beaune-based Louis Jadot acquired Ferret in 2008 following the passing of Colette Ferret without heir. Audrey Braccini is the present winemaker and she is doing an excellent job because some of these wines are equal to Jadot's Premier and even Grand Crus."
