In the province of Teramo the estate dominates the fertile valley of the Vibrata, lying at 240 meters above sea level. The soil is calcareous and stony which is excellent for drainage. The moderating breezes from the sea which is 15 km from the estate allow for perfect ripening. Baron Filippo Cornacchia stated growing Montepucliano vines at the end of the 19th Century and is considered the pioneer in the aging and bottling of Montepulciano in Abruzzo. Cornacchia currently has 32 hectares of vineyard.. The Le Coste vineyard has full southern exposure with its own special microclimate .Vines are 30 to 40 years old. Only grapes coming from this vineyard are used.
What The Critics Say
91 Vinous, Ian D'Agata (2015 vintage)
"Deep inky ruby. Big flinty plum aromas and flavors are complicated by underbrush. Very balanced and smooth. The finish features hints of minerals and underbrush. Made with organically grown grapes."
Parker's Wine Advocate, Monica Larner (2009 vintage)
"The 2009 Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Vigna Le Coste offers a nice package of varietal purity. The wine opens to dark concentration and thick aromas that lift lazily from the glass. Dark fruit, black currant, spice, leather and grilled herb find good balance. The wine is lush and rich in the mouth with solid structure and rich texture. Vigna Le Coste is aged in large oak casks for up to 14 months."
