A deeply concentrated, complex and savoury Shiraz from a premium producer in McLaren Vale. Coriole have been on this property since 1860, with some Shiraz vines dating back to 1919, and it is these older sources that give this extraordinary wine its combination of superb elegance with deep structure and power. Svelte and yet dense and profound, this is top notch red to drink or cellar -- at about half the price you would pay in Australia!

Its Origins

While Coriole was not established until 1967, the cellar door and gardens date back to 1860, when the original farm houses that now constitute the cellar door were built. The oldest shiraz forming part of the estate plantings dates back to 1917, and since '85, Coriole has been an Australian pioneer of sangiovese and the Italian white variety fiano. Shiraz has 65% of the plantings, and it is for this variety that Coriole is best known. -- James Halliday

What The Critics Say

96/100 Halliday's Australian Wine Companion, James Halliday

"It's easy to be seduced by the beautiful deep purple colour but it's the flavours, the palate that really matter. They star in this complex wine. Savoury toned, full-bodied, ripe and concentrated and yet, there's this line of definition and detail. The oak, sitting at 30% new French hogsheads, is seamlessly integrated." Drink by 2036

95/100 Huon Hooke

"Deep red colour with a faint tinge of purple. The bouquet is mellow and earthy, developed and savoury, the palate very intense and concentrated, powerful, lively and long. The tannins are emphatic but balanced. An excellent wine, built to age. 18 DEC 2017." Drink 2017 - 2032

94+/100 The Wine Front, Gary Walsh

"Black fruit, dark mint chocolate, nougat, earth and a little spice, with oak in support, rather than taking centre stage. Medium to full bodied, inky and dark, that wonderful ferrous character running through its veins, fleshy grainy tannin, almost a boysenberry sweetness, and a rumble of earthy bass on a long finish. Really good. Authentic. Age-worthy."
