Heaps of power and poise in our most popular Cotes du Rhone (and that's a big category, of course). Parker says this wine could age for a decade and we agree. Whole bunch pressed and with no oak, this super-Cotes du Rhone is traditional but quality-focussed and seriously concentrated.

Its Origins

“Charvin may indeed produce the Richebourg of Chateauneuf du Pape.” - Robert Parker. Laurent Charvin runs this small family estate located in the north of Chateauneuf-du-Pape. The domaine has vineyard holdings of just 8 hectares in Chateauneuf-du-Pape and 13 hectares in Cotes du Rhone. The average age of the vineyards is over 50 years old with the oldest being nearly 80 years of age. Laurent Charvin describes his vineyard site as being ‘cool’ for Chateauneuf as their vines are mostly planted on sandy north facing slopes.

What The Critics Say

87-89/100 Robert Parker, Wine Advocate

"Consistently producing lively, fresh and elegant efforts that never lack for structure or richness, Domain Charvin is run by the soft spoken and generous Laurent Charvin. The winemaking here is very traditional, with some stem inclusion and aging completely in tank. In addition to his Châteauneuf du Pape, don’t miss his Côtes du Rhône. It gives you a touch of the Charvin character for less buck, and can age for over a decade....The 2014 Côtes du Rhône (80% Grenache and the balance Syrah, Mourvèdre and Carignan) is a peppery, pretty, rose petal and black cherry scented effort that has medium-bodied depth and richness, lots of tannin and a clean finish. Aged 18 months in concrete tanks, it should be very good and evolve nicely for a 7-8 years".

91/100 Vinous, Josh Raynolds

"Brilliant ruby-red. A complex bouquet evokes fresh red berries, potpourri and smoky minerals, and an intriguing suggestion of blood orange emerges as the wine opens up. Juicy and precise, offering sweet raspberry and lavender pastille flavors underscored by a suggestion of peppery spices. The mineral quality comes back strong on the finish, which features silky tannins and impressive persistence. This bottling always outperforms its humble origins and that's especially the case in this vintage"
