A serious single-vineyard Bannockburn Pinot, with a nice bit of age on it as well. Paul Charteris is a Kiwi consultant working predominantly in Hunter Valley, and this beautifully premium Pinot was gown on the Winter vineyard in Bannockburn, which he managed personally on his many visits. A lovely depth of refined red bramble fruit is interwoven with herbal-mineral themes in a very harmonious and complete Pinot for the price. Ready but willing to go further in cellar.

Pinot Noir

Its Origins

"Owners Peter James (PJ) Charteris and partner Christina Pattison met at Brokenwood in the Hunter Valley in 1999. PJ was the chief executive winemaker at Brokenwood, and Christina was the marketing manager. Together they have over four decades of winemaking and wine marketing experience. In 2008 they launched their boutique brand For NZ-born PJ, finding a top Pinot Noir site in Central Otago New Zealand was a spiritual homecoming. They also have a vineyard with the gold-plated address of Felton Road, Bannockburn, planted to clones 115 777 and Abel. Currently the mouse (small production) that roared but who knows what the future holds!" James Halliday

What The Critics Say

Winemaker notes on current 2014 vintage

"If there is a single wine we have made to date that speaks most of site it is this one. At 5 years old there is still primary fruit presence, red berries and spice with an underlay of earthy, briar and thyme. Gentle aromatic lift disguises subtle power and depth in the bouquet. Raspberry notes are woven through dusty graphite, almost liquorice like, perfume, all washed over wet slatey rocks. There is a breeze of Quartz dust or silica that is reminscant of the vineyard dust in the air. The wine is fine boned as well. Juicy red fruit on the entry with vibrant acidity picks up and carries the structure of the wine almost immediately. Open and airy with fine but long tannins that have resonant texture. Lingering and bright, there is still plenty of youth in this wine so a wonderful wine to drink now but will continue to evolve given a few more years in bottle, if you can wait that long!"
