A balanced and generous expression of the classic Meursault Chardonnay. Even among the top vineyards of Meursault, the Gouttes d'Or ('droplets of gold') is known for particularly favourable conditions. As a gentle east/south-east facing slope it enjoys the morning to early afternoon sun but remains sheltered from the harsher afternoon. In the warmer climate of Meursault this brings notable ripeness while preserving acidity, with minerality encouraged by roots easily growing through the thin, free-draining topsoil into fractured limestone. A perfect situation for completeness and opulent expression in this classic Meursalt. 2014's purity has led to immense quality to drink now or cellar but with a more focused, finer fruit profile. An amazing opportunity!

Its Origins

Today the Burgundian wine domaine of Bouchard Pere et Fils can trace its origins back to 1731, though it is no longer family owned. In 1995 the Champagne house Joseph Henriot acquired the company and quality has risen as a consequence. Bouchard is led by Stéphane Follin Arbelet, while the wines are made by Philippe Prost - who has been with the company since 1978. An impressive gravity-flow winery on the Route de Savigny, the Cuvérie St Vincent, was completed in 2005 and enables them to process all their wines with optimum efficiency. Bouchard’s total holdings comprise 130 hectares, including 12ha of grand crus and 74ha of premier crus, which makes them the largest vineyard owners in the Côte d’Or.

What The Critics Say

92/100 and 'Outstanding' in Burghound, Allen Meadows

"This is finer and racier than usual and as such is worth your attention. This is aromatically a bit less ripe than it usually is, indeed to the point that there are green apple nuances present on the otherwise more typical aromas of pear, hazelnut and acacia blossom. I very much like the intensity and punch of the detailed and relatively powerful middle weight flavors that deliver outstanding length on the notably complex finale." Drink to 2021+

Vinous, Stephen Tanzer

"Silky, ripe and moderately sweet, with peach and soft citrus fruit flavors dominating. Lovely ripeness and texture here in an early-drinking style. Much more convincing on the back end than the Meursault Les Clous." Drink 2017 - 2023
