Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre
Wine Enthusiast named his winery Europe’s best in 2011, but Gerard Bertrand began as a rugby player representing France and Narbonne. It wasn’t until the early death of his father that he returned to take the reigns of the family operation, Domaine de Villemajou in Boutenac, Corbieres. He soon identified the potential of the Languedoc-Roussillon to produce rich yet bright, modern wines suited to world market trends and from there began acquiring labels and properties across the region. Balancing an organic and increasingly biodynamic viticulture with an evangelical zeal for exporting his Mediterranean ‘Art de Vivre’, Gerard Bertrand has quickly become one of the most important champions of that which epitomises Southern French wine of today: superb quality in quantity.
What The Critics Say
90/100 Wine Spectator
"A beam of mineral cuts through the blackberry, plum and currant notes in this concentrated, medium-bodied red, with garrigue and spice details easing into the fresh finish. Drink now through 2022. GS"
88-90/100 Parker's Wine Advocate, Jeb Dunnuck
"A step up over the forward, yet simple 2014 Languedoc cuvee, the 2014 Languedoc Cap Insula is another creamy, polished, hedonistic beauty that has tons of chocolaty dark fruits, oak and peppery herbs in a mouth-filling, straightforward package. It won’t appeal to the traditionalist, but it’s darn good and should put a smile on your face over the coming 4-5 years." Drink 2016 - 2021
90/100 Wine Enthusiast (2013 vintage)
"Pressed carnation and violet lead the bouquet of this red blend, surrounded by notes of raw fennel, licorice root, cassis, boysenberry and black plum. It's a rich and ripe selection, but well balanced, with medium, gripping tannins that frame the lush black-fruit flavors. Hints of black tea and baking spice linger on the finish."
