Anakota is part of the Jackson Family Wines portfolio. The story of Anakota begins deep in the heart of the Knights Valley AVA in rural Sonoma County. Located in an ancient volcanic zone, this pristine and relatively unknown place offers incredibly unique and diverse soils and a climate perfectly suited to Bordeaux grapes. Launched in 2001, Anakota produces two single-vineyard Cabernet Sauvignons from the winery’s estate vineyards in Knights Valley: Helena Dakota and Helena Montana. The 12.4-acre Helena Dakota sits below Mount St. Helena’s two grandest peaks at 750 feet elevation. The site possesses a moderate micro-climate absent of extreme heat or cold and reddish-brown, gravel/silt loam soils intermingled with some volcanic rock. The Cabernet Sauvignon from Helena Dakota is large and dark with notes of espresso, chocolate, blackberries, cassis and wet stone. Located at 950 feet above sea level, the 60-acre Helena Montana vineyard features rolling hills, undulating benches and severe slopes up to 30 degrees. The steep terrain is exposed to the cool maritime winds from the west. The hard, crusty soil restricts root development creating smaller, low-yielding vines. The Cabernet Sauvignon from Helena Montana is deep and elegant with ripe aromas of blueberries and black currants. It is a candidate for extended aging. To ensure the world-class quality, Vigneron Pierre Seillan oversees all aspects of Anakota’s planting, farming, harvesting and winemaking.

What The Critics Say
93+/100 Parker's Wine Advocate, Robert Parker
"The 2014s are 30-year wines, even in such a supple, easygoing and charming vintage. The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Helena Montana has an opaque purple color, a beautiful nose of graphite, creosote, incense, blackberry and licorice, and maybe a touch of charcoal and earth. The tannins are soft, and there is enormous fruit as well as a deep, full-bodied mouthfeel and some coffee in the finish. It should drink well for 25-30 years. -- Bordelais winemaker Pierre Seillan, who makes these wines for the Kendall-Jackson empire, believes that this micro-terroir has exceptional potential. Not far from Peter Michael, it faces southwest and gets refreshing winds off the Pacific through the Petaluma Wind Gap. These are relatively big wines, but every year that I have tasted them, Seillan has fine-tuned the tannins so that they are abundant but sweeter and much better integrated. For those who keep score, these wines are kept 14-16 months in barrel, with the amount of new oak decreasing every year, and alcohol levels of 14.5-14.8%. There are two cuvées grown at different elevations, but both from southwest vineyards, with the Helena Montana at 950-100 feet, and the Helena Dakota at 650 feet or so." Drink 2016 - 2046

"Anakota's 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Helena Montana has turned out beautifully. Dark, sumptuous and beautifully resonant in the glass, the 2014 exudes richness. Red cherry jam, raspberry, mint and licorice abound. Flamboyant and opulent, with soft contours and good structure, the 2014 hits all the right notes." Drink 2018 - 2026
