A big rich Zinfandel in the best American tradition. Deep extraction of colour and flavour make it a powerful and satisfying red, while good freshness and ripe tannins mean it will go beautifully with richer food. Classic stuff of the kind only top Californians can deliver. Cellar or decant, you choose - just don't wait for the hazards of next vintage...

Its Origins

In 1886 Edoardo Seghesio left his family vineyards in Piedmont, Italy and arrived in America to begin a new life. He ended up in Sonoma County where the new wine industry was flourishing. In 1895, after a decade of experience with the climate and soils, Edoardo chose the western bench of Alexander Valley as his stake in the New World and planted his first vineyard to Zinfandel, a very common wine grown by Italian immigrants as it resembled the soft, fruit-driven wines of home. After a rough time during the 20th century due to Prohibition, the estate is now run by winemaker Ted Seghesio, and has expanded to include vineyards in the Russian River Valley, Dry Creek Valley, San Lorenzo and elsewhere in the Alexander Valley

What The Critics Say

92/100 Wine Spectator

"A lively, zesty red that offers bright cherry and tarragon aromas and sleekly layered flavors of briary raspberry, nutmeg and fresh-cracked black pepper. Drink now through 2021."

Wine Advocate, Robert Parker

"The 2013 Zinfandel Sonoma is an exuberant, richly fruity, medium-bodied effort displaying plenty of raspberry, blueberry and cherry fruit, 14.8% natural alcohol, and a lusty personality. It should drink well for several years."

92/100 Connoisseur's Guide (2012 vintage)

"Over the years, Seghesio's solid Zins bearing the simple Sonoma County designation have been among the better values to be found, but this 2012 just might be the best bottling yet and is a deep, very well-focused, impressively extracted wine that is long on fruity muscle. While it takes on an edge of astringency at the finish, its tannins are not out of bounds and afford it the spine and the structure needed for aging, and service with the richer foods for which it is made will make its minor, last-minute heat next to unnoticeable."
