A major factor in Riverby’s success is the total control over all grape production on the single estate vineyard. A significant portion of the vineyard consists of vines with considerable age and this is complemented by slightly younger vines utilising modern clones. This combination of vine age and meticulous clonal selection is readily apparent in the high quality fruit being produced. Vines were first planted in 1989; on land that had previously been used for cropping and sheep farming. Further plantings have continued over the years, until now over 70 hectares are planted out in Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Riesling, Pinot Gris, Semillon, and Syrah. The most recent planting is of Gruner Veltliner. As part of Riverby’s focus on viticultural excellence, yields are kept very low and several varieties are handpicked. Sustainable grape-growing techniques are practiced throughout the whole grape-growing and winemaking cycle.
What The Critics Say

"This is outstanding. The immensely appealing and complex bouquet shows yellow peach, mango, spice and honey aromas, leading to a concentrated palate that's meltingly delicious offering elegant sweetness and rich texture, perfectly balanced by mouth-watering acidity. It's harmonious, multi-layered and extremely long on the finish. At its best: now to 2025. $27.00. www.riverbyestate.com. July 2014."

"Eliza’ is a niece and passed down generational family name. A blend of the Dry Riesling and Noble Riesling wines, resulting in 13.0% alc., 40 g/L RS, and pH 3.04. Brilliant straw-yellow colour with light golden hues, lighter edged. The nose is initially shy, opening up to show breadth and depth, revealing aromas of yellow florals and citrus fruits melded with honey and marmalade and some subtle toasty complexities. Medium-sweet to taste and medium-bodied, the palate features rich and ripe lime fruit flavours alongside honey, toast and marmalade. This has good fruit weight and extract , the mouthfeel showing phenolic textures and presence, balanced by fresh, lively, savoury acidity. The wine flows with good energy and underlying tension, unfolding complexing exotic floral and musky botrytis detail as it carries to a very long and sustained finish. This is a rich and complex medium-sweet Riesling with layers of citrus fruit, honey and toasty detail. Serve as an aperitif and with fruit and baked desserts over the next 4-5 years. 18.5/20 Apr 2015 RRP $24.00."
