A single-site, old vine Chardonnay for a special clearance price. This wine has lush citrus and honeyed stone fruits that are "nicely maturing" with age, as the wine gains pithy and mineral layers of food-friendly complexity. Made from some of their oldest vines and most low-yeilding vines, the Omihi Reserve is a great offering for this discounted price.

Its Origins

Omihi Hills is a boutique winery that aims to produce fine quality wines for all to enjoy. It is located in the Waipara region of North Canterbury in the South Island of New Zealand. Waipara is one of the fastest growing wine areas in New Zealand with over 80 vineyards. The area is well known for its alpha climate and so its ability to produce fantastic Pinot Noir, Riesling and Chardonnay. The wines are created from hand-picked grapes grown in two ecologically sustainable vineyards. Omihi hills the mature vineyard below the winery that was planted with Pinot Noir grapes in 1986 and also grows some Chardonnay grapes. Omihi Crossing, a younger vineyard, planted in 2000, grows Pinot Noir and Reisling grapes. The unique environments of our Estate Vineyards are ideally suited for the production of premium quality Pinot Noir, Reisling, and Chardonnay wine.

What The Critics Say

94/100 Wine Orbit, Sam Kim

"A wonderfully maturing chardonnay; the impressively complex bouquet shows golden peach, baked apple, vanilla custard, roasted hazelnut and subtle spice notes. The palate is concentrated and opulent, delivering glorious fruit power and intensity, wonderfully complemented by creamy texture and juicy acidity. It is multi-layered, engaging and expansive with delectable bottle-matured flavours. At its best: now to 2020. $33.00. www.omihihills.co.nz. Jan 2018." Drink 2016 - 2025

4.5 Stars Michael Cooper

"The 2013 vintage (4.5*) was grown in North Canterbury and matured in seasoned oak barrels. Mouthfilling, with concentrated, peachy, slightly buttery and toasty flavours, showing good complexity. It's a bold, expressive wine, drinking well now."
