First planted in 1993, at the eastern end of Waiheke Island, Man O’ War consists of 150 acres of vines planted in 76 individual hillside blocks, each with a distinct soil profile and microclimate. Every single block bears the footprints, and sometimes the names, of those who transformed Man O’ War’s rugged hillsides into a spectacular patchwork of vines. Helmed by winemaker Duncan McTavish and vineyard manager Matt Allen, the wines represent a legacy of preservation and great respect for the land and its history.
What The Critics Say
92+/100 Parker's Wine Advocate, Joe Czerwnski
"Produced in minute quantities (150 cases) from the property's steepest vineyard blocks, the 2013 Kulta Totto Syrah spent a year in oak, then a year in older oak, and has been bottle-aging at the winery. Mocha, cedar and black olive notes accent dark, plummy fruit in this full-bodied wine that boasts a creamy, supple mid-palate and a long but still-chewy finish. Give it another couple of years, and drink it over the following decade." Drink 2020 - 2030
