Another great Brunello from Lisini – the 2012 vintage was superb for richness and texture. Having said that, Lisini concentrate on a traditional style in which ripe red and dark fruit with florals and cured meat nuances wrap around a structure of fresh acid and ripe but sturdy tannins. This sense of body is helped by the iron richness in the sandy clay-silt soils, which lie at 300-350 metres of altitude. With a proper density and structure, but also heaps of natural finesse and unfolding complexity, this is a Brunello treasure and great value at this price.

Its Origins

Lisini is one of Montalcino's oldest wine estates. The Clementi family fought alongside the Medicis in their conquest of Montalcino, for which Capt. Silvio Clementi was rewarded with the Pecci palace in Montalcino, as well as buying another propriety in Sant’Angelo in Colle. Today, signor Filippo Paoletti is responsible for making the five traditional wines, using cement and large oak casks. With Lodovico’s Lisini's death in 1950, his daughter Elina took over, believing in the estate’s potential and initiating the very first bottling until her death in 2009. The Lisini were among the founding fathers of the first Brunello di Montalcino Consorzio in 1963; with Elina becoming one of its Presidents. The current generation of Lisini - Carlo, Lorenzo and Lodovica - continue to uphold the family tradition.

What The Critics Say

93/100 Parker's Wine Advocate, Monica Larner

"Lisini's 2013 Brunello di Montalcino opens to a delightful appearance that sees shades of garnet and dark ruby blend into one. The bouquet is sprightly and buoyant, thanks to a pretty ensemble of wild berry, licorice and grilled herb aromas. Those are mixed with heavier background tones of spice and leather. There is also a noticeable floral note of wild rose and dried jasmine. This is a silky and smooth Brunello with a hint of fresh acidity on the close." Drink 2020 - 2035

93/100 Vinous, Ian D'Agata

"Bright medium red. Spicy, floral perfumes of red cherry, red currant, licorice and minty herbs. At once juicy and lively, but also dense and energetic; bright, harmonious acidity nicely frames the cool flavors of red currant, spicy plum and minty herbs. This refined Brunello boasts outstanding tension, midpalate energy and focus. Finishes with polished tannins and noteworthy floral lift.” Drink 2023 - 2033

17.5/20 JancisRobinson.com, Walter Speller

"Mid to deep ruby. Exotic spice and cherry nose with nutty (oak?) notes and, with aeration, a hint of leather. A little wild even. Lifted cherry with exotic spice hints on the palate. Racy and light yet precise with lots of chewy tannins. Burgundian, more than anything. (WS)." Drink 2018 - 2024
