Lisini is one of Montalcino's oldest wine estates. The Clementi family fought alongside the Medicis in their conquest of Montalcino, for which Capt. Silvio Clementi was rewarded with the Pecci palace in Montalcino, as well as buying another propriety in Sant’Angelo in Colle. Today, signor Filippo Paoletti is responsible for making the five traditional wines, using cement and large oak casks. With Lodovico’s Lisini's death in 1950, his daughter Elina took over, believing in the estate’s potential and initiating the very first bottling until her death in 2009. The Lisini were among the founding fathers of the first Brunello di Montalcino Consorzio in 1963; with Elina becoming one of its Presidents. The current generation of Lisini - Carlo, Lorenzo and Lodovica - continue to uphold the family tradition.
What The Critics Say
95/100 Vinous, Eric Guido
“A captivating, brooding wine, the 2013 Brunello di Montalcino Riservas off with notes of moist soil and undergrowth, yet quickly opening in the glass to reveal masses of crushed strawberries, encased in a cloud of white smoke, minerals, and savory herbs with an unmistakable note of spiced-apple tea. It bristles with energy on the palate, as brisk acids carry its silky textures across the senses, delivering a gorgeous mix of cherry, strawberry, zesty spice, and salty minerals. The finish is long and structured, as hints of dried cherry, spice, and inner florals battle a mix of minerals and tannins for supremacy, yet ultimately take a back seat to the 2013’s youthfully austere state. Sangiovese purists take note; this is a pure, classically-balanced Brunello to lose in the cellar for five to ten years and then revel in for decades to come." Drink 2022 - 2038
95/100 Decanter, Michaela Morris
"If Montosoli is Montalcino's great cru of the north, then the area of Sesta between Castelnuovo dell'Abate and Sant’Angelo in Colle is its southern counterpart. This is where Lisini's vineyards are located. The Riserva is crafted from the finest bunches throughout their holdings, so the selection depends on vintage conditions. A true Riserva, this will take time to fully reveal its charms and has a long life ahead. The palate is compact yet beautifully fluid in texture, with an underlying freshness and tanginess of acidity. Red cherry, citrus blossom and fragrant incense flavours slowly come into focus while minerality drives the whole." Drink 2020 - 2035
17.5/20 JancisRobinson.com, Walter Speller
"Deep ruby with orange tinges. Deep and concentrated cherry nose. Lots of concentrated marasca cherry on the palate, but still very much contained. Supple finish with finely built, long-lasting tannins. Ready now, but can age too. (WS)." Drink 2019 - 2028
