Its Origins

Founded in 1980 by Andrew and Cynthia Hendry when the New Zealand wine industry was small and relatively unknown, Coopers Creek Vineyard has grown and matured over three decades into a top class winery with a strong international presence. It continues to innovate, particularly with new wine styles, introducing and pioneering promising new grape varieties that are ideal for cool climate regions. Viognier, Albariño, Arneis, Grüner Veltliner, Marsanne and Montepulciano are new varieties for New Zealand, but heading for stardom. Coopers Creek is satisfying a growing demand for these stylish varieties in addition to its longstanding pedigree with Chardonnay, Syrah and Bordeaux reds.

What The Critics Say

5 Stars, Top Ten and Best Buy in Cuisine NZ Syrah Tasting, June 2017

"A youthful, lively syrah that’s still very fresh at four years of age. Inviting berry aromas have touches of violet, mocha and spice. It’s medium bodied, lush in fruit, and satisfyingly constructed, with a tight underpinning of tannins keeping it all together. A wintry lamb pie beckons."

91/100 Bob Campbell MW

"Ripe and almost chewy Syrah that could almost pass for a light Barossa Valley Shiraz in a blind tasting. Plum, chocolate/mocha and a rich, creamy texture. Great value at this price."

90/100 Wine Orbit, Sam Kim

"It is sweetly fragrant on the nose showing cherry pie, dark plum, vanilla and cedar characters with hints of spice and floral. The palate offers lovely fruit intensity and silky texture, together with attractive savoury complexity. A charming medium-full-bodied syrah offering excellent drinking. At its best: now to 2018. $22.00. www.cooperscreek.co.nz. Oct 2016."
