What is now Wynns Coonawarra Estate was founded by Scottish pioneer John Riddoch, who planted vineyards in 1891 and completed the estate's three-gabled winery. In 1951 Melbourne wine merchants Samuel and David Wynn purchased Riddoch's original vineyards and winery and renamed the property Wynns Coonawarra Estate. They now are one of largest single vineyard owners with some of the oldest vineyards in the Coonawarra.
What The Critics Say
95/100 Halliday's Wine companion, James Halliday
"Another vote of confidence in this relatively recently introduced label, sister to the Black Label Cabernet Sauvignon. It deserves to be so rated, with a particularly complex palate in terms of texture, structure and flavour. Red fruits lead the band, and there are some darker, savoury, earthy nuances, in turn enhanced by quality oak and fine, but persistent, tannins." Drink by 2037
93/100 Bob Campbell MW
"Richer and more intense than above with more pronounced choc/mocha characters together with a hint of spice. Quite opulent. Very accessible but will no doubt age well 2014-07-22."
92/100 Huon Hooke
"Deepish red/purple colour, the bouquet earthy, dusty and savoury, with a medium to full-bodied palate, soft tannins and fine balance. The texture is powdery and seamless, the finish long and harmonious. A delicious mouthful of traditional shiraz. " Drink 2014 - 2029
