We call this a 'Mini Sassacaia' as it comes from the terrior of this great estate, what's more they gave us a great deal on this beauty - which is normally a lot more. From an upstart producer doing great things in Tuscany, the Poggio Al Moro is a beautifully bright and appealing red blend of local and imported grapes - all farmed organically on beautiful, simple terroir in Bolgheri. With a long extraction period of 3-4 weeks, the breadth and intensity is there but so is the grace and charm that makes Tuscan wine so balanced and effortless. A blend of 30% Sangiovese, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot 30%, 10% Syrah. Delicious!

Its Origins

The 'Garagiste in Bolgheri,' Enrico Santini was born and raised in the area. His decision to plant vineyards and dedicate his life developed out of his love for the land, and influenced his decision to implement organic practices within his vineyards. The estate produced its first wines in 1999 but was quickly recognized as one of the future stars under the Bolgheri appellation. He spent 15 years working in the supermarket industry before leaving to work for a friend’s winery. After three years Enrico ventured out on his own – with no winery, no vineyards, no tools and, as he puts it, mortgages enough for two lives. Enrico planted his first vineyard in 1998 and transformed the garage and basement of his home into a winery.

What The Critics Say

90/100 Wine Spectator (2012 vintage)

"A powerful red, packed with black cherry, blackberry and plum flavors, featuring vibrant acidity. Firmly structured, with tannins that resonate on the finish, offset by sweet fruit and underbrush notes."

90/100 Parker's Wine Advocate, Monica Larner (2012 vintage)

"A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Sangiovese and Syrah, the Bolgheri Rosso Poggio al Moro sports dark concentration and almost Oriental aromas of dark spice and cured meat. Bright acidity and tannic firmness give the wine welcome structure."

Antonio Galloni

"Enrico Santini continues to turn out impressive wines in the full-bodied generous style that is typical of Bolgheri."
