One of Burgundy's best value Grand Crus, from an outstanding vintage. Les Pougets shares with its famously named neighbour Le Charlemagne a patchwork slope of lime and iron-rich marlstone soils. The latter favour Pinot Noir and produce and intense, earthy and masculine style. With time to brood and unfurl in cellar, this lesser-known Grand Cru rewards handsomely in the glass. Check out the 'maturity' dates on this wine! At little more than $100 for a serious cellaring prospect - this is extraordinary value. Collect!

Its Origins

In Burgundy’s Côte d’Or, where the integrity of the producer is often more important than a renowned appellation or vineyard, Maison Louis Jadot is one of the most venerable, most trusted and revered wine houses. Jadot’s winemaking team, now led by Technical Director Frédéric Barnier, has maintained a balance of tradition and technology in winemaking that allows Jadot’s wines to express the subtle differences between terroirs that are the essence of fine Burgundy. Though officially retired in 2013, esteemed winemaker Jacques Lardière continues to work in an advisory role and on special projects. Founded in 1859, the house has grown through a long-term policy of acquisition or management of exceptional vineyard lands and owns 528 acres of vineyards, including nearly 280 acres of the Cote d’Or’s most prestigious Premier and Grand Cru plots.

What The Critics Say

93-95/100 Vinous, Antonio Galloni

"Black cherries, plums, smoke, licorice, new leather and cloves jump from the glass as the 2012 Corton Pougets shows off its personality. Rich, concentrated and voluptuous to the core, the 2012 is unusually opulent in this vintage. The tannins are nearly buried by the pure resonance of the fruit. This is going to be a fascinating wine to follow once it comes together a little more fully. Drink 2022 - 2042."

92+/100 Stephen Tanzer

"Bright medium red. Scented aromas of black cherry, licorice, crushed stone, rose petal and sweet oak. Silky on entry, then juicy and sharply focused in the middle, showing a captivating light touch to its pungent red fruit, mineral and spice flavors. Finishes with suave, fine-grained tannins and lovely savory persistence. I've been enjoying this rather feminine, stylish Corton grand cru back to the 1970s, and it has a strong track record for graceful aging. Drink 2022 - 2035"

92-94/100 Neal Martin, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

"The 2012 Corton-Pougets Grand Cru is earthier than its fellow Cortons, unfolding in the glass to reveal broody, tertiary brambly red fruit, briary and a whiff of wet limestone. The palate is well defined with fine tannins and good matiere. It is very focused, quite serious with impressive mineralite lining the long finish. This is a sophisticated Corton-Pougets for long-term ageing. Drink 2018 - 2032."
