A powerful yet floral Burgundy, the stoney, lime-rich Les Fuees is regarded as a baby brother to its expensive Grand Cru neighbour, Bonnes Mares. With east-facing aspect giving deep colour, power and structure akin to top aging Crus like Vosne-Romanee, this vicinity also compares to Volnay in elegant floral expression. Thus something of a holy grail - showcasing both masculine and feminine attributes of Burgundy - the 'Fuees' costs relatively little for one of the region's most complete and rewarding cellaring styles. Every box should have one. Or six.

Its Origins

In Burgundy’s Côte d’Or, where the integrity of the producer is often more important than a renowned appellation or vineyard, Maison Louis Jadot is one of the most venerable, most trusted and revered wine houses. Jadot’s winemaking team, now led by Technical Director Frédéric Barnier, has maintained a balance of tradition and technology in winemaking that allows Jadot’s wines to express the subtle differences between terroirs that are the essence of fine Burgundy. Though officially retired in 2013, esteemed winemaker Jacques Lardière continues to work in an advisory role and on special projects. Founded in 1859, the house has grown through a long-term policy of acquisition or management of exceptional vineyard lands and owns 528 acres of vineyards, including nearly 280 acres of the Cote d’Or’s most prestigious Premier and Grand Cru plots.

What The Critics Say

91-94/100 Stephen Tanzer

"Saturated deep red. Superripe yet sappy aromas of black and red fruits, crushed stone and smoky minerality. Then extremely suave and refined on the palate, and distinctly red in character, with dense strawberry, raspberry and crushed stone flavors nicely framed by harmonious acidity. Ripe but classically dry wine, finishing with lovely tangy floral lift, fine-grained tannins and terrific cut. This is Jadot's vinification, and it shows!"

90-92/100 Robert Parker

"The 2012 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Fuees has a slight reduction on the nose, but with aeration it opens up and offers tertiary, briary aromas; then later broody black fruit and wild hedgerow. The palate is medium-bodied with a juicy, succulent opening: plenty of redcurrant and tart red cherry fruit. It demonstrates admirable tension and length on the finish to crown this fine Les Fuees that should age with style."
