After working with Marcarini in La Morra, Elvio Cogno returned to his family village in 1990 to rebuild an historical farm into the home of one of Piedmont's more important Barolo producers. Now daughter Nadia and her husband Valter Fissore are the force behind the rising fortunes of the house, producing strictly classic wines with modern cleanliness and technique, low yields and sustainable, closely managed vineyards.
What The Critics Say
94/100 Vinous, Antonio Galloni
"The 2012 Barolo Ravera is another gorgeous wine from Cogno. An exotic melange of orange peel, cinnamon, spices, licorice and dried rose petal lifts from the glass as this sublime, nuanced Barolo gradually opens up. Deceptively medium in body, the 2012 Ravera captures the pedigree of this great Barolo site. The Ravera emerges from 70 year-old vines, 60% Lampia and 40% Michet in terms of clonal composition. With time, the Ravera gains weight, power and intensity, all with streaks of supporting tannin that give the wine its sense of proportion." Drink 2022 - 2043
17.5/20 Jancis Robinson
"A shade deeper ruby than the Cascina Nuova and with a narrow orange rim. Intensely perfumed with a layer of spice and minerals. Really distinct and fresh and dances over the palate. Racy and elegant, followed by compact tannins. Crystal clear." Drink 2016 - 2028
