An icon of complex Kiwi Sav that's more like a top French Sancerre. Dog Point are from the early Cloudy Bay orbit, so this oak-age style is similar to by Cloudy's Te Koko though it has zero new oak and malolactic creaminess, making it an extremely fine, intense and complex white. The best of new and old world Sauvignon in one bottle. Enjoy with food.

Sauvignon Blanc

Its Origins

Dog Point Vineyard combines the considerable winegrowing experience of Ivan Sutherland and James Healy, the former chief viticulturalist and head winemaker at Cloudy Bay. After leaving Cloudy Bay, Ivan and James began making wines from Sutherland's own vineyards, which were planted in the 70's and 80's. Additional fruit is sourced from selected vineyard plantings dating back to the late 1970's. The first vintage with the Dog Point label was 2004, using 2002 fruit. Over 200 hectares of vines are farmed, with sustainable/organic practices.

What The Critics Say

96/100 Bob Campbell MW

"Oak fermented and oak-aged Sauvignon Blanc with grapefruit, mineral, nut and bran biscuit flavours. Taut and powerful wine with enough concentration and power to handle obvious oak character. Very distinctive wine that has justifiably earned something of a cult following."

Jo Burzynska, Viva NZ Herald, April 2014

"Back for the second year in a row in the highest category of the Viva Top 50 is Dog Point's flagship barrel-matured Section 94. One of the country's greatest sauvignon blancs, its 2012 release is another powerhouse of a wine with mouth-filling mango and papaya fruit; notes of herb, smoke, flint, a subtle toasty edge and racy grapefruit acid."

18/20 JancisRobinson.com, Julia Harding

"Naturally occurring ferment in old oak barrels. pH 3.28, TA 7.6 g/l, RS 2.22 g/l. This smells really promising. Lightly oaky, smoky, mineral but with plenty of fruit too. Oaky on the palate too but with a drive of fine citrus through the middle. Very good indeed. (JH)." Drink 2014 - 2020
